Curious what it’s like to be a patient at Generations Family Dental? We’re taking you behind-the-scenes!

Generations Family Dental St. Albert New Patient Experience

Ask anyone how they feel about going to the dentist and you’re likely to inflict a slight panic at the thought. We know that going to the dentist might not be high on your list of enjoyable activities—but we’d like to change your mind on that!

We believe that one of the reasons you may be uncomfortable about going to the dentist is that it can feel a little mysterious. After all, you can’t see what’s happening when the dentist or hygienist is working in your mouth. You may not fully understand the terminology being used. And in some cases, you may not even feel like you’re a part of the decision-making process when it comes to treatments or procedures you receive. We believe this has to change!

Our philosophy

Our goal at Generations Family Dental is to create a comfortable and inviting experience for our patients. We focus on building genuine connections and relationships with our patients and their families. After all, our patients are the ones who make what we do such a joy!

We strive to go out of our way to help you feel comfortable, informed and empowered when it comes to your dental health. This means thoroughly explaining all procedures and treatment options and helping you feel confident about the decisions you make. Ultimately, we want you to feel involved in your own dental health—and this starts with your very first appointment!

What happens during my first appointment?

After you’ve booked your first appointment, feel free to browse our website. You’ll find lots of useful information, some photos of our office (so that you know what to expect) and you can even get to know Dr. Hardy a little more before you come in. Feel free to stalk us on Instagram too!

When you arrive for your first appointment, come introduce yourself at the front desk. We’ll gather some patient information and then you can get settled in our inviting waiting room. Enjoy a beverage while you wait or just relax. If you have kids, they’ll love our play area!

When it’s time for your appointment, we’ll bring you back to the patient area and go through a comprehensive dental evaluation with you. It’s important to us that we get to know you and your dental history. We set aside a lot of time for your first appointment so that you can ask any questions you might have without feeling rushed.

During our time together, we’ll also take the time to listen to any dental concerns you have so that we can properly diagnose any issues. Anything we uncover will be shared with you and we’ll always present all available treatment options so that you can decide the best option for your personal situation. Depending on the complexity, we may be able to begin treatment during your first visit. If not, we will advise you on any follow-up appointments that will be needed. We strive to keep you informed and comfortable throughout your whole appointment.

Do I need to bring anything to my first appointment?

When you book your first appointment, we’ll give you a heads up about anything that you might need to bring along. This may include any dental insurance you have, a list of your current medications, and x-rays taken by your previous dentist, if applicable. If you have any questions about what you need to bring for your specific situation, don’t be afraid to reach out.

How much will my first appointment cost?

Fees will vary from patient to patient because every situation is different. The cost of your appointment will depend on what your immediate concerns are and which services you selected to have performed.

When it comes to treatment options, we try to keep our recommendations as conservative as possible and focus on what is truly necessary to keep your teeth strong and healthy. We also follow the 2020 Alberta Dental Fee Guide and we can direct bill your insurance company. This ensures that there are no surprises when it comes to our fees or your invoice.

How do I get started?

The best way to get started is to phone our office and book a consultation. You can also request an appointment on our website. We’ll walk you through the process and get you booked in for your first appointment. We can’t wait to meet you and welcome you to the Generations family!
